Modlitwa początkowa
ludzki wizerunek, uformowała ich na Twoje boskie podobieństwo, mocą Twojego Ducha, na chwałę Boga Ojca.
Duchu Święty, Duchu Światłości, oświecaj kapłanów;
Duchu Święty, Duchu Czystości, uświęcaj kapłanów;
Duchu Święty, Duchu Mocy, wspieraj kapłanów;
Duchu Święty, Duchu Boży spraw, by kapłani ożywieni i umocnieni Twoją łaską, nieśli słowo
prawdy i błogosławieństwo pokoju na cały świat;
Niech ogień świętej miłości rozpala ich serca, by w płomieniach tej miłości oczyszczali i uświęcali dusze.
Duchu Święty, powierzamy Ci serca kapłańskie;
Ukształtuj je na wzór Najświętszych Serc Jezusa i Maryi. Amen.
Novena for priests by St. John Mary Vianney – Day 8 – What snares does Satan set when it begins to serve God ?
Opening prayer
Lord Jesus, You chose Your priests from among us and sent them out to proclaim Your Word and act in Your Name. For such a great gift to Your Church, accept our praise and thanksgiving. We ask You to fill them with the fire of Your love, so that their priesthood may manifest Your presence in the Church. Because they are vessels of clay, we pray that Your power will penetrate their weaknesses. Do not let them be crushed in their afflictions. Grant that in doubt they may never give in to despair, never give in to temptations, so that in persecution they may not feel abandoned. Inspire them in prayer so that they may live daily the mystery of your death and resurrection. In moments of weakness, send them your Spirit. Help them to praise Your Heavenly Father and pray for poor sinners. By the power of the Holy Spirit, put your word on their lips and pour your love into their hearts, so that they may bring the Good News to the poor and healing to the downcast and desperate.
May the gift of Mary, your Mother, for Your disciple whom you loved, be a gift for every priest. Grant that she who formed You in her human image may form them in Your divine image, by the power of Your Spirit, to the glory of God the Father
Holy Spirit, Spirit of Wisdom, guide priests;
Holy Spirit, Spirit of Light, enlighten priests;
Holy Spirit, Spirit of Purity, sanctify priests;
Holy Spirit, Spirit of Power, sustain priests;
Holy Spirit, Spirit of God, grant that priests, enlivened and strengthened by Your grace, may bring the word of truth and the blessing of peace to the whole world.
May the fire of the holy love inflame their hearts, so that in the flames of this love they may purify and sanctify their souls.
Holy Spirit, we entrust to you priestly hearts;
Shape them in the image of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Amen.
Meditation
„The first snare that the devil sets for a person is fear of human opinion. (..) A man hides his good deeds, he is ashamed of them, he is afraid. The devil „arouses in such a person a unique fear and constant suspicion that his confessions are wrong, that the priest does not know the true state of his soul, that no penances will help him/her, because he/she will be condemned anyway, that it is better to give it all up than to live in constant fear and worry. When man lies in sins and vices, he/she does not feel or see any temptations in themselves. (…) For example, a compulsive drunkard, (…) a conceited girl, (…) you will ask if there are any spiritual battles? He/she will tell you that he/she has no idea what temptation is. And yet, when they want to change their life, all hell is thrown at them.
St. Augustine knew: „As long as he lived immorally, he did not know what temptation was. He was completely calm. But when he turned away from the evil spirit, he had to fight fiercely with him for five years, weeping bitterly and repenting severely.”
St. Jerome writes: „I am very troubled by the thought that I could yield to temptations and offend God. Help me with your prayers, dear friend, that I may more courageously resist the chat that swore to me eternal destruction.” St. Gregory: „Therefore you are not tempted, for evil spirits are your friends, directors and shepherds; they allow you to live a peaceful life, and only when you die will they throw you into the abyss.”
Closing prayer
Glory be to the Father…
